Abdominal and Pelvic Scars

Many patients are not routinely referred to physical therapy following abdominal or pelvic surgeries, including cesarean sections and myomectomy (fibroid removal). Abdominal scars can develop multiple layers of adhesions, which bind surrounding tissues and restrict mobility. This restricted movement may contribute to pain, pelvic discomfort, or urinary incontinence over time.

Early scar mobilization after surgery often yields the best outcomes. However, even scars that are 10 or more years old can respond positively to targeted mobilization techniques.
