Abdominal and Pelvic Scars

Many patients are not routinely referred to physical therapy following abdominal or pelvic surgeries, such as cesarean sections or myomectomy (fibroid removal). Over time, abdominal scars can develop multiple layers of adhesions that bind surrounding tissues and limit mobility. This restriction may contribute to pain, pelvic discomfort, or urinary incontinence. Early scar mobilization after surgery typically leads to the best outcomes; however, even scars that are 10 or more years old can respond positively to targeted mobilization techniques. Treatment may include manual scar mobilization and visceral manipulation—gentle, hands-on techniques that help restore normal movement and function of the internal organs and surrounding tissues, improving comfort and overall pelvic health.
